Remembering the Brave: A Memorial Day Reflection

At Bales Funeral Home, Memorial Day holds a special place in our hearts. It’s more than a day off or the unofficial beginning of summer — it is a solemn time to reflect on the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As a family-owned funeral home in Camden, Ohio, we have walked alongside many families whose loved ones proudly wore a uniform and answered the call of duty. We understand the weight of their sacrifice and the quiet strength of the families who continue to carry their memory forward.

This Memorial Day, we encourage our community to take a moment, whether in silence, in prayer, or at a graveside, to honor those who never came home. Visit a veteran's grave, place a flag, share their story with a younger generation, or simply pause to be thankful for the freedoms their service has made possible.

Let us never forget that the liberties we enjoy today were secured by the selfless acts of our nation’s heroes. May we honor them not just in words, but in how we live — with gratitude, unity, and respect.

From all of us at Bales Funeral Home, may your Memorial Day be filled with remembrance, reverence, and love.

An obituary is a notice of passing that usually includes a brief biography of the person who has passed. Although there isn’t a right or wrong way to write an obituary for your loved one, it can be a difficult piece to compose alone. In this blog, I will provide an outline and give pointers to writing a meaningful and honorable obituary for yourself or a loved one.
