Obituary

Norman Douglas “Doug” Mabry

Age 91, of Camden, Ohio, died on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton, Ohio.

He was born on November 12, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Clyde and Ethel Mabry.

Doug was a 1949 Camden High School graduate where he met and later married, for 63 years, his lifetime love, the late Glenna (Barber) Mabry.  After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force which he served for 4 years during the Korean War.  Doug returned to Camden and was employed at General Motors in Dayton, at Frigidaire and later at Harrison Radiator for 35 years.  Over his time, he was an active member of the Camden community.  Doug served as a deacon for the First Presbyterian Church, delivered mail, served on the fire department, and coached several years as a youth baseball coach.  He loved to tell stories which he read during Story Time at the Camden Branch of the Preble County District Library and worked for a short time at Rodeffer Insurance.

He was preceded in death by the aforementioned wife; parents; stepfather, Lewis Hawkey; and brothers, Rodrick Mabry and Kent Hawkey.

Doug is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Kathy Mabry of Camden, Ohio, Randy and Tari Mabry of Wilmington, Ohio, and Glen and Sheryl Mabry of Eaton, Ohio; sister, Shirley Hawkey; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Ruth Mabry of Byrdstown, Tennessee.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all his neighbors on the hill over the last couple of years in looking out and caring for him.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 15 from 11AM to 1PM at BALES FUNERAL HOME, Camden.  The funeral service will begin at 1PM with Pastor Cody McPherson officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
