Maurine "Renee" Ann (McCulloch) Thompson

March 4, 1929 — December 12, 2018

Maurine “Renee” Ann Thompson

Age 89, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at The Knolls in Oxford, Ohio.  Renee was born March 4, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa and was the eldest daughter of the late James and Marie McCulloch.  The family eventually settled in Portsmouth, Ohio.  Renee had four siblings: the late Barbara (Bailey), the late James McCulloch, Shirley (Bodley), and Carolyn (Engle), all of whom attended high school in Portsmouth.

Renee attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in marketing and advertising.  After graduation Renee went to work at Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati doing marketing research until she married in 1951.  After her marriage to Bruce Dewey Thompson, Renee helped on the family farm on State Route 725 West near Camden, Ohio and was a homemaker.  Renee and Bruce had three children.  In 1967 Renee went back to Miami to get a degree in library science.  She then worked in the Preble Shawnee High School Library until her retirement in 1991.

Renee and Bruce began vacationing at Crystal Lake in Frankfort, Michigan in 1959.  They purchased the lakefront cottage and eight acres on South Shore Drive in 1980.  Renee and Bruce loved spending time with family and friends at the lake, and in their retirement, they lived half of year in their cottage at Crystal Lake and the other half in Oxford, Ohio.

Family and friends knew Renee as a one who would always lend a listening ear, was curious and bright, industrious and helped others achieve their potential.  She loved her time as a librarian and was fond of both her colleagues and the students.  She was a good athlete and enjoyed golf, ice skating, and walking on the beach.

Renee is survived by her children, daughters Ann (Allan) Reed, Polly (Jerry) Thompson, and son J.D. (Liz) Thompson, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
