Albert Eugene Sandlin

85, of Camden, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Gene was a very strong successful man who was loved dearly by everyone who met him. He loved giving his advice to people and was very kindhearted. Gene loved the Lord and he was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Camden. Many people knew him by his nickname “Squeaky”, which was given to him by the Camden fire department. He served 20 years there as a volunteer firefighter. Gene worked for most of his life in various roles. He worked for 30 years as a structural steel foreman and 17 years for Dunkelburger and Sons heating and air conditioning. He retired at the age of 79. Gene continued to lead a very active lifestyle going to the YMCA to workout, dancing, and being heavily involved at the Preble County Senior Center. He was Preble County Senior King in 2017. Gene loved to enjoy life and had many hobbies. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles and a member of the BMW motorcycle club. He once traveled out west for 33 days on the motorcycle. He enjoyed camping, fishing, shooting guns, NASCAR racing, dirt track racing, cars (especially his corvettes and convertibles) and in his early years, he once was a licensed airplane pilot. Gene was a wonderful member of the community and a wonderful family man.

He is preceded in death by his birth father, Alva Shaffer; mother, Dollie (Hartman) Sandlin; adopted father, John Sandlin; late wife of 51 years, Mable (McDivitt) Sandlin; daughter, Peggy Sandlin; brother, Mark Shaffer.

Gene is survived by his two daughters: Teresa Rich & Bruce Arthur of Eaton, and Mary & Artie Stowe of Camden; A very special friend, Pam Hines and daughter, Kellie Hines of Eaton; Three brothers: Alvie & Becky Sandlin of South Carolina, Leonard & Olga Sandlin of Richmond, Indiana, Jimmy Schaffer of Eaton; Grand Children: Greg & Sara Stowe, Ryan & Amy Rich, Kristi & Brian Deaton, Bradley Stowe, Kendra & Jessie Hammock, Kyle Stowe, Jennifer Stowe; 19 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great grandson; many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and lots of amazing friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 5 from 5-8PM at First Southern Baptist Church, 35 N. Liberty Street, Camden.  The funeral service will begin at 11AM on Wednesday, October 6 at the church with Pastor Greg Jackson officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.

Contributions in Gene's memory may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church.
