Sheila Raney, age 76, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022. Sheila was born March 21, 1946 in Winchester, Ky. and is preceded in death by parents,Jacob and Thelma Brewer, beloved brother, Gus Brewer, and cherished granddaughter, Kaitlyn Wilson.
She is survived by her adoring husband of fifty-four years, James Raney and beloved children, Steve Raney, Kelly Raney-Wilson, James Raney, and Felicia Raney, her precious grandchildren, Ashlee Williams, Troy Raney, Jacob Raney, Paige Bruder, Kassy Wilson, Aaron Chelgren, Dylan Chelgren, and Brooke Raney, and great-grandson, Olliver Chelgren.
Sheila was an amazing wife,mother, grandmother, and friend. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami University and received her Masters degree in education from The University of Dayton. Sheila was an phenomenal educator and was a well-loved government teacher at Preble Shawnee High School for 23 years. Mrs. Raney was a favorite teacher to many. She left an indelible mark on countless students. An avid reader, intrepid traveler, and life-long learner, Sheila had an unmatched zeal for life.
She was a lover of music and all furry creatures and was her happiest when cooking for a full house of family and friends. Her home was filled with fun, laughter, and unconditional love. She adored her grandchildren and was equally adored by them as she could always be counted on to stay up all night playing cards followed by a homemade breakfast of biscuits and chocolate gravy. She was the matriarch of our family, the heart of our home; our north star.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sheila’s honor to St. Jude’s Hospital. Sheila’s memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the West Elkton Methodist Church in West Elkton. Visitation will begin at 3:00pm followed by a memorial service at 6:00pm. Due to the increase in cases of flu, the family will not be holding a reception following the memorial
