Ralph M. Newton, Sr.

77, of Somerville, left his Earthly body to join his wife, Betty Jo Newton, in Heaven, on Sunday, July 20, 2025.

He was born August 19, 1947, in Hamilton, to the late Matthew and Buferd C. (Tipton) Newton.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Ralph was preceded in death by his siblings, Bev “Red” Newton, Betty Ballinger, Lloyd “Tom” Newton, Robert “Bob” Newton, Bonnie Young, and Dale Newton, of which he was the last.

He is survived by his children, Mike Newton, Michelle Pole-Newton, Ralph (Darla) Newton, Jr., Jason (Stephanie) Newton, and Joe (Brittany) Newton; grandchildren, Adam, John, Chelsea, Linzy, Tyler, Zack, Kyle, Shawntae, Breawna, Seth, Jacob, Eli, Luke, and Nevaeh; and several great grandchildren.

Ralph began his lifelong career as a truck driver at the young age of 16, mastering the highways and byways with a quiet strength and steady hand. Behind the wheel, he found purpose and pride, providing for his family with dedication and grit.

When he wasn't working, Ralph found comfort in the timeless stories of the Old West, spending hours watching Gunsmoke and classic westerns. He especially looked forward to barbecue gatherings, an opportunity to kick back, share laughs, and enjoy good food with his children and grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.

Though pets weren’t allowed indoors during his own childhood, Ralph’s heart softened with time. His beloved dogs, Baby Girl and Oliver, became more than companions, they became family. He delighted in their company, happily spoiling them with a warm bed and all the love they deserved.
