Freda E. Stephen
Age 96, of Eaton, formerly Fairhaven, passed away Thursday January 11, 2018.
She was born February 26, 1921 in Preble County to her parents, Samuel and Edith (Root) Groves, and weighed only 3 ½ pounds!
Freda married Kenneth E. Stephen on April 25, 1942, and he preceded her in death in November 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her children, Mickey in 1949, Kathy in 2007, and Peanut in 2014; and several siblings. She is survived by her children, Jim (Terry) Stephen of Liberty, Pat (Bill) Roberts of TN, Judy (Jerry) Wilson of Eaton, Cindy (Fred) Wilson of Richmond, and Chuck (Dodie) Stephen of Eaton; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Stevens of Oxford; and many more family and friends.
Freda was instrumental in starting the Preble County Board of MRDD in the 1960’s, and went back to work full-time in 1969 due to Kenny having heart surgery. She retired from Hueston Woods State Park in 1985 after having started cleaning cabins in the 1950’s and ended in the Park Office. Freda was also well-known for her quilts.
A visitation will be held Wednesday January 17 from 4:30PM to 7:00PM at the BALES’ FUNERAL HOME, Camden. A funeral service will begin at 12:00PM Thursday January 18 at the funeral home with Rev. Gerald Sadai officiating.
