Duwayne A. Lohrey
77, of Camden, passed away Friday December 13, 2024 at Hospice of Hamilton.
He was born April 23, 1947, in Hamilton, to the late Harry E. and Opal (Weisenbach) Lohrey.
In addition to his parents, Duwayne was preceded in death by his siblings, Delbert, Geraldine, Keith, Glenna, and Terry; and son-in-law, Jerran Adkins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diana Lohrey, who he married March 29, 1969; daughter, Jennifer Adkins; son, Jason (Jackie) Lohrey; grandchildren, Michala (Doug) Croucher, Dana Lohrey (Adam Wadlington), Brooke Lohrey, Trever (Diamon) Gillum, and Owen Lohrey; Great grandchildren, Filex Croucher and Wrenley Gillum; Brother in law; Tom (Pam) Ark, Rodger Ark, Sister in law, Dorenda Lohrey, Joyce Johnson, Robin Wood, Becky (Fred) Schmidt, Katie (Rick) Halter.
With a career spanning over 30 years in construction, Duwayne rose to the rank of field superintendent with the Local 534 Laborer's Union, earning respect for his strong work ethic and leadership. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Duwayne was known for his genuine kindness, a welcoming nature that instantly put others at ease, and a sense of humor that could brighten any day.
Raised in the scenic countryside of Preble County, Duwayne's love for his hometown was deeply rooted. He often said he couldn't imagine being anywhere else, and his connection to the land and its people defined his life.
As a Camden council member, he played a pivotal role in bringing the emergency squad to the town, enhancing safety and care for his neighbors. He was also among the first EMT-Paramedics in southern Preble County and served ten proud years on the Camden Fire Department, always ready to lend a helping hand in times of need.
In retirement, Duwayne discovered a passion for cooking. Inspired by the cooking shows he watched; he mastered the art of recreating restaurant dishes with remarkable accuracy. His homemade pizza became a favorite, while his bagels and turkey pot pie were legendary among his friends and family.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring.
