Camden
Darren F. Sanford
Age 55, of Camden, passed away on Tuesday September 8, 2026, at 8:54pm at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 23, 1970, in Staten Island, New York to Neil M. Sanford and Mildred (Spinetta) Addotta.
Darren is proceeded in death by his father, Neil M. Sanford; a still born baby sister; beloved dog, Bella; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred (Joe) Addotta; brothers, Neil (Audrey) Sanford of Jacksonville, Florida, and Chris (Elena) Sanford of Rotonda, Florida; and his fiancé of 11 loving, caring, and wonderful years, Barb Heinkel.
Darren was incredibly proud of his children and cherished his family. He is survived by Dylan F. (Madison Davis) Sanford, Olivia (Jacob McKee) Sanford, Ryann (Matt Poynter) Sanford, Jarred (Carrissa) Sanford, Tace Davis, Hunter Davis, and Kevin Barrett. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Emma C. Sanford , Carter L. Poynter and Rylee N. Robbins. Darren was also a beloved Uncle to four nephews and one niece.
Darren also had numerous “adopted children” whom he loved dearly, including Asher, Autumn, Dakota, and Cory. He cherished his dearest friends, Mike, Kaylee and Adian, John, and so many other family members and friends who held a special place in his heart. Darren had a remarkable gift for making everyone around him feel welcomed, valued, and loved. His family extended far beyond those connected to him by blood—he had a way of creating bonds that made people feel truly like family.
A true animal lover, Darren had a special place in his heart for his pets, especially his beloved Bella. He enjoyed scuba diving and appreciated the peaceful, beautiful moments it gave him the chance to simply take in his surroundings and live in the moment.
Darren was also a familiar and much-loved face at AutoZone in Hamilton, where he considered the people there his second family. Known affectionately as the “Parts God,” Darren was always ready to share his knowledge, lend a hand, or help someone find exactly what they needed.
He had many passions and interests that made him uniquely Darren. He was an avid watch collector, with a particular appreciation for Rado watches. He loved reading Clive Cussler’s marine and historical adventure novels. He enjoyed shooting and making his own ammunition, and he was a proud Harley-Davidson owner who loved taking his Harley out any chance he got. Darren was also a proud member of the Covered Bridge Riders Riding Club.
But above all of his hobbies and interests, Darren loved his family and friends. He especially loved being “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren. Whether he was joking around with them, making them laugh, or joining in their dance-off parties whenever they wanted, he treasured every moment he shared with them.
Darren will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His smile, laugh, sense of humor, kindness, and larger-than-life personality left an impression that will not be forgotten. He lived a life filled with people he loved, passions he enjoyed, adventures he pursued, and memories that will remain with his family and friends forever.
The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank-you to the oncology nurses at McCullough-Hyde Hospital. Darren and his family lovingly called them “his angels,” and their compassion, care, and support meant more than words can express during his courageous journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Darren’s name to the Humane Society of Preble County.
