THOMPSON, Bruce Dewey

Age 91, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at The Knolls in Oxford, Ohio.  Bruce was born November 25, 1925 in Hamilton, Ohio.  He graduated from McGuffey High School in Oxford, Ohio.  In 1943, during WW11 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the Army Specialized Training Program, and later to the Army Air Corps.  He was honorably discharged in 1945.  After his enlistment, Bruce completed his undergraduate degree at Miami, University and did graduate studies at Iowa State and University of Illinois.  He then purchased a farm in Camden, Ohio on State Route 725 West and began farming.  Bruce met his wife of 65 years, Maurine (Renee) McCulloch at Miami University and they married August 25, 1951.

After the birth of his first two children, Ann and Polly, he realized that farming would not adequately support his young family.  He took a job with Fisher Body in Hamilton, Ohio and was later employed at Aeronca, Inc. from 1953 - 1991.  Bruce worked in the pricing department where he estimated bids on government contracts.

Bruce and Renee began vacationing at Crystal Lake in Frankfort, Michigan in 1957.  They purchased the lakefront cottage and eight acres on South Shore Drive in 1980.  Bruce and Renee loved spending time with family and friends at the lake, and in their retirement, they lived half of the year in their cottage at Crystal Lake and the other half in Oxford, Ohio.

Family and close friends knew Bruce as a generous individual who would always lend a helping hand, had a love for nature and animals, and was a free spirit who lived his life on his own terms while deeply respecting the rights and feelings of others.

Bruce is survived by his wife Maurine Thompson, daughters Ann (Allan) Reed, Polly (Jerry) Thompson, and son J.D. (Liz) Thompson, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
