Obituary

Beverly Ann Matthews, 92 years young, was carried by angels into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Just four days after celebrating her 92nd birthday, Beverly entered the gates for a grand reunion she had long believed in, joining loved ones who were waiting for her in Heaven.

Beverly lived most of her life in Xenia, Ohio. She was the beloved daughter of the late Ezra and Evelyn Ethel Beekman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Matthews; her son, Garry Matthews; her daughter, Vicki Matthews; and her grandson, Casey Raby.

She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her sons, Larry (Carrie) Matthews and Terry (Mel) Matthews; her daughter, Veda Matthews; her grandchildren, Heather Matthews, Poe Matthews, Nia Bettle Matthews, Joe (Tracey) Bettle Matthews, James (Ashley) Bettle Matthews, Kris Raby, Kayla (Brent) Kensey, Todd Johnston, Kendra (John) MacGregor, Ashley Matthews, Adam (Brittany) Matthews, Larry (Leeann) Matthews, Kevin (Tina) Matthews, and Michael (Amy) Matthews; along with 36 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Known lovingly to many as Bev, she was a God-fearing woman whose faith was the foundation of her life. She loved reading her Bible, sharing God’s Word with others, posting Scripture and encouragement on Facebook, and spending countless hours writing about God’s Word and whatever the Lord placed on her heart. Bev enjoyed attending Bible study, and when she could no longer go, she opened her home and began hosting Bible studies there.

Beverly worked for many years with Greene County at the WIC office, where she served others with dedication and care. She was a talented woman who loved to sing and play the piano. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, cooking, baking, and writing poems.

Bev was also a hard worker who spent many years farming. Of all the work she did, one of the things she enjoyed most was mowing grass. She would climb onto the zero-turn mower and go, and the pictures of her mowing even this spring say it all.

Family was deeply important to Beverly, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Her life was a beautiful reflection of faith, strength, kindness, and devotion. Though her family will miss her dearly, they find comfort in knowing she is home with her Savior and reunited with those who went before her.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
